Jorinus Kalis, our CirclesOfLife Project Coordinator, explains in this video the EU-CirclesOfLife-project on circular and zero-emission shipbuiling. A consortium of companies with different roles in shipbuiling, collaborate on developing measurement tools for the non-operational impact of shipping in all phases: design, build, supply, repair, maintenance, lifetime extensions and end-of-life. Two main results of the CirclesOfLife project are presented in the video, the Shipyard Environmental Performance Index (SEPI) and the Ship Lifecycle Passport (SLP).
These results contribute to enhancing material circularity and reducing emissions in the shipbuilding industry. The SEPI focuses on the environmental footprint of the shipyard itself, taking into account all the various inputs and outputs of the shipbuilding process. The SLP includes Ship Circular Materials Passports (SCMP) for the different components of the ship and will serve as a specification of the ship passport, applying EU regulations to the maritime industry. The video also mentions the added value of the collaboration between the partners in the setting of the CirclesOfLife-consortium.
