Ship Recycling Lab 2026: full programme is out

Transformation Through Innovation

The third edition of the Ship Recycling Lab, organised by NGO Shipbreaking Platform, is approaching. Inspiring keynote sessions, thought-provoking presentations and interactive panel discussions around ship recycling, all this will happen on 14-15 October in Marseille, France.

Did you know that up to 95% of ship’s weight can be recovered as scrap steel? End-of-life ships are an excellent, yet untapped source of high quality scrap, which can be repurposed and reused in many sectors! The end-of-life fleet of today is a high-quality material bank for the decarbonisation of the steel and building sectors

NGO Shipbreaking Platform, consortium partner of the CirclesOfLife project, recognising the need for visionary solutions for ship recycling, proudly invites to the third edition of the Lab on 14-15 October 2026 in Marseille, France

Register now: 3rd Ship Recycling Lab Tickets, Wednesday, October 14-Thursday, October 15  •  8:30 AM-2 PM | Eventbrite

This is a one-of-a-kind event promoting new and sustainable solutions for ship recycling of the future. The organisers aim to boost engagement and commitment to finance capacity building and innovation for a new standard of ship recycling. Important players such as CMA CGM or Hapag-Lloyd, policymakers, financial institutions, and many others will be present at this forward-thinking event, sharing core values of circularity, innovation, leadership, and green steel

The Ship Recycling Lab will be divided into several thematic panel sessions

  • Circular Ship Recycling: the OPPSIRK Model – practical example of circular ship recycling in action, showing how vessels can be dismantled through a system designed around safety, material recovery, industrial cooperation and environmental accountability.
  • Scaling Innovation in Europe: National & Regional Pathways – how circular ship recycling can move from a pioneering example to a wider industrial reality across Europe. Infrastructure, access to downstream waste management and steel recovery markets, cooperation between public authorities and private operators, and the policymakers are required to give responsible recyclers the confidence to invest.
  • TECH SLAM SESSION – fast-paced space for innovators to present practical technologies, tools and solutions that can support cleaner, safer and more circular ship recycling, with a goal of enabling exchanges between sectors that do not always speak to each other, but whose expertise is essential to modernising ship recycling.
  • CirclesOfLife workshop – showcasing the development of the Shipyard Environmental Performance Index and the Ship Material Passport, our innovative digital solutions that put circularity in practice.
  • Financing Circular Ship Recycling at Scale – how ESG commitments can be translated into concrete financing mechanisms for circular ship recycling, with investors and investment funds.
  • Beyond Europe: Emerging Circular Ship Recycling Hubs – emerging circular ship recycling hubs in the world, innovative solutions from Brazil and the Gulf countries.
  • Circularity, Decarbonisation & Industrial Strategy – how circular ship recycling can support wider decarbonisation efforts, particularly through circular steel, material reuse, electric arc furnace-based production and improved waste management, with policymakers and sectoral organisations.
  • From Compliance to Leadership – there is no credible discussion on ship recycling without shipowners. Leaders such as Hapag-Lloyd and CMA CGM will demonstrate genuine leadership in responsible ship recycling.
