Regularly, CirclesOfLife, and partners meet on stage to share experiences with stakeholders in the shipbuilding industry. Soon we show up together with EcoShipYard, and Green Marine Europe. The place of action: Posidonia, Athens, Greece ⚓ international shipping exhibition week ⚓ June 3, 2026 ⚓ 16:45 – 19:00hrs.
Once present in Athens: get your updates on the future of shipyards during our joint session about vessel engineering, circular and sustainable shipbuilding, green shipyards, as well as ICT, digitalisation, policy, regulations and international trends.

We would like to draw your attention to this part of the late afternoon programme 16:45-19:00 where COL-partners, Antidia Citores and Rosanne van Houwelingen will be presenting. Two highlights:
17:00-17:20 – The future of Vessels Engineering – Antidia Citores (Green Marine Europe)
This topic is particularly relevant from a shipowner’s perspective. Green Marine Europe (GME) represents shipyards and shipowners and will provide valuable insights from this stakeholder viewpoint. Different market segments, such as cruise, marine, and commercial, will be briefly addressed in the context of innovative applications on board. Additionally, the certification of future shipyards will play a key role in shaping the ships of tomorrow.
17:30-17:50 – The future of Green Shipyards Operations – Rosanne van Houwelingen (Maritime & Offshore NL | CirclesOfLife)
This topic is mainly relevant for shipyards; building the ships of the future. The relevance of the future of green shipyards will be presented with reference to the European Industrial Maritime Strategy (EMIS/EIMS) to which CirclesOfLife contributed and is now referenced in the strategy. The Commission highlights continued support for maritime circularity, covering the full lifecycle from design to end-of-life and material recovery through research and innovation. The strategy emphasises tools such as digital passports for lifecycle and material traceability, as well as Shipyard Environmental Performance Indexes developed in EU-funded projects like CirclesOfLife and EcoShipYard.
CirclesOfLife, as part of the green shipyard of the future, developing:
- Shipyard Environmental Performance Index (SEPI) to enable shipyards to measure, assess, and improve their environmental footprints.
- Ship Lifecycle Passport (SLP) is a means of documenting the lifecycle of materials used in shipbuilding, from design and production to repair and recycling; its specifications at component level are to be documented in the Ship Circular Materials Passport (SCMP).
The future starts now
Several EU-partners collaborate on standardised tools for benchmarking and improving shipyard sustainability, fostering the adoption of cleaner technologies and facilitating access to green finance. Tools are to become aligned and integrated with existing industry certifications and regulatory reporting requirements, notably Green Marine Europe and the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), as well as the related European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
